FACT:

• Homeless families move frequently due to limits on length of shelter stays, the search for safe and affordable housing or employment, or desperate efforts to escape abusive family members. Homeless children sometimes change schools because shelters or other temporary accommodations are not located within their school district. They frequently transfer schools multiple times in a single year. Within a year, nearly half of homeless children will attend two different schools, making it difficult to make and maintain friendships. They lack essential tools to be successful students and a healthy environment in which to do schoolwork.
